Blank Space
Our housing stock is too complicated. It fits too tightly, without room to breathe, and cannot accommodate our transitions from one life stage to another.
Our proposal is designed from the inside out, centred on creating a series of simple rooms. These stacked rooms, whether the three-story main house or two-story laneway, allow occupants to tailor them to their needs and re-form them as those needs change.
With a simple baseline, uniqueness and quality come from the architect’s ability to wrap those rooms with a dynamic envelope that mediates inside and out. Well-positioned windows provide daylight, ventilation, and views, and balconies allow the house to expand into its surroundings.
The design to the right represents just one of an endless variety of configurations, offering exciting possibilities for creating unique and personalized living spaces.
